Paycheck Calendar 2027: your 3-paycheck months

Paid every 2 weeks? That’s 26 paychecks in a normal year, not 24. See every payday of 2027, the months when a third paycheck lands and, if you like, what the 2 extra paychecks add up to. Pick one of your paydays and the calendar fills in. Free, no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Your whole 2027 calendar comes from this one date: we count in 14-day steps from it. Your last payday, your next one or your first payday of 2027 all work. For pay every 2 weeks only.

See what the extra paychecks add up to and your real monthly average. Use what lands in your account, if every paycheck is the same amount. 1,500 is just an example; leave it empty to see only the calendar.

What this calendar assumes

  • You’re paid every 2 weeks (every 14 days), on the same weekday. Weekly, twice-a-month and monthly pay are not counted here.
  • Every paycheck is the same amount. If yours changes with your hours, overtime, bonuses or salary, use a typical paycheck and treat the totals as a rough guide.
  • We count paydays on the dates the 14-day cycle gives. If your employer pays a day early or late around a holiday or weekend, your real date can differ by a day, and a payday near the start or end of a month can land in the month next to it (for example, a January 1, 2027 payday paid on December 31, 2026).
  • The paycheck amount you type is used only to multiply. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

Example only, not financial advice.

This calendar shows how the dates and the math work for the day and amount you enter. It doesn’t know your pay rules, your taxes or your bills, and it can’t tell you what to do with a paycheck. For decisions about your own money, check with your employer and consider talking to a qualified professional.

How to read your result

  • Your 3-paycheck months are the months of 2027 when three of your paydays land. 2027 has 26 paydays (27 if one falls on January 1), and most months have two, so a couple of months fit three.
  • Paydays in 2027 is how many paychecks you get in the year if you’re paid every 2 weeks.
  • Extra paychecks is that count minus 24, the number of paychecks “two a month” adds up to.
  • What the extra paychecks add (when you add an amount) is the extra paychecks times your paycheck. Your real monthly average is the year’s total divided by 12, not “two paychecks”.
  • The month-by-month list shows each payday date. Months marked “3 paychecks” are the ones with the third paycheck.

Why every-2-weeks pay gives you 26 paychecks, not 24

Paid every 2 weeks, you get 26 paychecks a year, because a year has 52 weeks and a day or two, and 52 ÷ 2 = 26. Planning on “two a month” counts 12 × 2 = 24. The 2 paychecks in between are your extra paychecks.

Every month gets at least 2 of your paydays and never more than 3. Even February has 28 days, exactly two 14-day steps, and no month is long enough for a fourth. So most months bring 2 paychecks, and usually 2 months a year bring 3.

Here is the same thing in days. 2027 has 365 days. 365 ÷ 14 = 26, with 1 day left over, so a payday every 14 days lands 26 times. The 1 leftover day is why a payday on Friday, January 1, 2027 gives 27: the cycle fits in one more.

Worked example (example only): first payday Friday, January 8, 2027. Add 14 days each time: Jan 8, Jan 22, Feb 5, Feb 19, Mar 5, Mar 19, Apr 2, Apr 16, Apr 30 … April has three paydays (2, 16 and 30), and so does October (1, 15 and 29). That’s 26 paydays in the year.

Every-2-weeks pay is the most common pay period at US private establishments (business locations): 43.0% paid biweekly in February 2023 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Current Employment Statistics). That counts workplaces, not workers.

$1,500 every 2 weeks is $3,250 a month, not $3,000

A $1,500 paycheck every 2 weeks averages $3,250 a month, not $3,000: 26 × $1,500 = $39,000 a year, and $39,000 ÷ 12 = $3,250. A budget that plans on “about $3,000 a month” counts 24 paychecks: 24 × $1,500 = $36,000. The other $3,000 arrives as the third paycheck in two months of the year.

With a first payday of January 8, 2027, ten months bring 2 paychecks ($3,000 each month) and April and October bring 3 ($4,500 each): 10 × $3,000 + 2 × $4,500 = $39,000.

Real monthly average = your paycheck × 26 ÷ 12 (× 27 ÷ 12 in a 27-payday year)

(Example only, if every paycheck is the same amount.) Add your own paycheck to the Paycheck Calendar above and it shows your yearly total and your real monthly average.

A payday on January 1, 2027: 27 paydays, or 26?

A payday cycle that lands on Friday, January 1, 2027 gives 27 paydays in 2027, with 3 paychecks in January, July and December. It’s the only one of the 14 possible first paydays that does (see the table above).

January 1 is also New Year’s Day, a federal holiday (OPM, 2027 holiday schedule). If your employer pays that check early, on Thursday, December 31, 2026, it counts in 2026: your 2027 then has 26 paydays, and your 3-paycheck months are July and December. The Paycheck Calendar counts the plain 14-day cycle, so it shows 27 either way; your employer’s payroll calendar has the final dates.

A biweekly budget example: 2 paychecks a month, 2 more to plan ahead

Every month brings at least 2 biweekly paychecks, so a budget built on 2 paychecks a month can count on at least those 2, and the extra paychecks become money you can plan before it lands. Example only, not financial advice.

  • Monthly bills, split over 2 paychecks. With $2,400 of monthly bills and a $1,500 paycheck, each of the month’s first 2 paychecks covers $1,200 of bills and leaves $300.
  • Bills due on the 1st, checked against your dates. With a first payday of January 8, April’s third paycheck lands on April 30, the day before a May 1 bill, and May’s paychecks come on the 14th and 28th. So a bill due May 1 may need that April 30 paycheck. Check your due dates against the month-by-month list before you plan the extra.
  • Each extra paycheck, given a job ahead of time. In this example that’s $1,500 in April and $1,500 in October, $3,000 in the year: a yearly bill, savings, a card balance or a weekend away. Which one is your call.

Questions about biweekly paychecks and 3-paycheck months

How many paychecks will I get in 2027 if I'm paid every two weeks?

26 paychecks (26 pay periods), unless your 14-day cycle lands on Friday, January 1, 2027: then the calendar gives 27. 2027 has 365 days, which is 26 steps of 14 days with 1 day left over, so a 27th payday fits only when a payday falls on January 1. If that check is paid early, on December 31, 2026, your 2027 count is 26. Pick one of your paydays in the Paycheck Calendar to see your own count.

Which months have 3 paychecks in 2027?

It depends on your first payday of 2027. Paid every other Friday from January 8, your 3-paycheck months are April and October. From Friday, January 1, they are January, July and December (27 paydays). Thursday, January 7 gives April and September; Wednesday, January 6 gives March and September. Every start date is in the table on this page, or pick one of your paydays and the Paycheck Calendar marks the months for you.

Why do I get 26 paychecks a year, not 24, if I'm paid biweekly?

Because biweekly pay comes every 14 days, not twice a month. A year has 52 weeks and a day or two, and 52 ÷ 2 = 26. Every month gets at least 2 paydays (even February has 28 days, exactly two 14-day steps), and usually 2 months a year fit a third (3 months in a 27-payday year). Two paychecks a month would be 24, so you get 2 more.

How much is a biweekly paycheck per month?

Your paycheck × 26 ÷ 12, not × 2. Example: $1,500 every 2 weeks is $39,000 a year, which averages $3,250 a month, not $3,000. Ten months bring 2 paychecks ($3,000) and two months bring 3 ($4,500). Add your paycheck amount to the Paycheck Calendar and it shows your real monthly average. (Example only, if every paycheck is the same amount.)

Is the third paycheck really extra money?

It’s extra compared with a budget built on two paychecks a month, but it isn’t a raise or a bonus: it’s pay for two weeks you worked, and your yearly pay doesn’t change. With an example $1,500 paycheck, 26 paychecks add up to $39,000 and “two a month” plans for $36,000, so $3,000 a year arrives in the 3-paycheck months. (Example only, if every paycheck is the same amount.)

Is biweekly the same as twice a month?

No. Biweekly means every other week: the same weekday every 14 days, 26 paychecks a year, with a third paycheck in some months. Twice a month (semimonthly), for example the 1st and the 15th, is 24 paychecks a year, exactly 2 every month, so it never has a 3-paycheck month. The Paycheck Calendar counts every-14-days pay only.

Why does my payroll calendar show 26 paydays when this shows 27?

The January 1 payday is the one to check. A cycle that lands on Friday, January 1, 2027 gives 27 paydays, but January 1 is New Year’s Day, a federal holiday (OPM, 2027). If your employer pays that check early, on Thursday, December 31, 2026, it counts in 2026, so your 2027 has 26 paydays and 3-paycheck months in July and December. Your employer’s payroll calendar has the final dates.

Which payday should I enter in the Paycheck Calendar?

Any one of your real paydays works: your last one, your next one or your first payday of 2027. The calendar counts forward and back in 14-day steps from that date to find every 2027 payday, so a payday from 2026 gives the same result as one from 2027. A recent pay stub or your payroll app usually shows a pay date.

What should I do with the third paycheck?

That’s your call; the Paycheck Calendar shows when it lands and what it adds up to. One way to plan: build the regular budget on two paychecks a month and give each extra paycheck a job ahead of time, such as a yearly bill, savings, a card balance or a weekend away. Check first that it isn’t needed for a bill due early the next month. (Example only, not financial advice.)

Does this work if I'm paid weekly, monthly or on a salary?

The Paycheck Calendar counts pay every 14 days only. Weekly pay has 4 or 5 paychecks a month, twice-a-month pay has exactly 2 and monthly pay has 1, so the 3-paycheck question doesn’t apply to them. Salaried and paid every 2 weeks? The dates work the same; ask your employer or HR how a year with 27 paydays is handled for your pay, and treat the totals as a rough guide.
